"Blind Date" is a stop motion short that I created as a part of Aardman's Stop Motion Industry training under the guidance of Andy Symanowski. The praying mantis puppet stands approximately 45cm with a steel ball and socket armature, wrapped in embroidery floss with polymer clay hands, feet, upper torso, and head with moveable clay eyes. I feel like the embrodiery floss gives her a visually interesting, almost alien appearance while also allowing her joint screws to be accessed easily. Her beetle date has a wire and epoxy putty armature with a polymer clay carapace. The rest of the set is made from a combination of foam, paper, bass wood, felt, plastic, found objects, and acrylic model paints.
